Thurrock - Unsustainable Cities? the on-line 2014 RGS Exhibition
Thurrock Thameside Nature Reserve.
Another disused landfill site, but this one has been changed out of all recognition. It is now a wildlife reserve on the Thames Estuary. The award winning visitor's centre has a small cafe and education facilities. There is a viewing platform on the roof.Usually subsidence is an issue when materials in a landfill continue to decay. This has been cleverly thought through in a way that allows the resulting methane to be captured and used.
